Like Norris State Park a few miles to the South, it's okay but a bit small. There are some short, easy trails and a very cool bird watching station on the edge of the lake. When water levels are down, look toward the northwest corner of the lake and watch for the massive turtles, trundling along the mud like restless rocks.

This is an amazing state park right off the exit from the interstate. The park is huge and has a ton of walking trails around the lake. The lake has a lot of wildlife to watch. It is very quiet and a great place to spend a day there. There are also recreational areas for sports like Tennis. Very fun to visit.

This state park is a great location for a quick stop. While driving through, we stopped for our kids to have some time to stretch their legs. They have basic playground equipment our little ones enjoyed (1 and 4 years old). Picnic tables and shelters make picnicking convenient. We also spent a night at the camp ground. Plots are basic, but suitable for tent camping if you choose carefully. Lots of RV camping as well if this is your preference. This is a place we plan to visit again if opportunity permits.

I've been coming to this camp ground for 30+ years...in all this time I have never seen it so awful...the bath houses are ridiculous...they are nasty..no water pressure at all..some of the showers never turn off..it wasn't clean in I know for the 2 weeks that we spent here...they use to clean them with bleach that was so strong you could smell it outside the building, which I felt was great... They lake was always beautiful, but not now, trash was awful down there...I understand that the trash comes from people camping there, but there could have at least been 1 clean up day...I love this place..made many memories there with my family and want to make more...what happened to the bike helmet rule...no kids was wearing them at all..I watched several rangers just wave at them and keep going...what happened to the park I hold so dear in my heart...was really disappointed this trip...actually it really just hurt my heart that something so beautiful has been treated like this...

We just did a toilet stop this time, but choose Cove Lake because of the pleasant memories over the past four decades stopping there to enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings

Some things to consider... 1. The playground is near the lake. No problem with older, more responsible kids, but can be a challenge with little ones. 2. Canadian Geese take over the place during part of the year leaving their droppings everywhere. This can be a bit annoying especially if you are using the day use area. I did not see this an issue in the campground. 3. All who enter the pool area must pay for swimming regardless of whether they swim or not. 4. If you pay for camping, your cost for swimming is discounted.
